Walking

Our location in the Tamar Valley, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, means it is an ideal base for exploring. Cornwall has a diverse variety of landscapes ranging from coastal paths to river walks, from moorland treks to heritage trails and Pilgrim routes to archaeological explorations. Best of all it’s just within a short drive away from us.

  • A day’s walking is a great activity for all the family and there is a great variety of interesting sites, beautiful views and places to go to keep everyone interested. There is also plenty of free information and maps to help you make the most of your walks.
  • As well as boasting the longest coastline in Britain, Cornwall offers everything a walker looks for from a variety of terrains to breath-taking seasonal views. And of course, there are plenty of local pubs and cafes serving great food and drink to help you wind down and re-fuel after a hard day’s walking, or even along the way!
  • There are lots of local walks and public footpaths in the area, some starting right on our doorstep. Here are just a few suggestions of what the local area has to offer:
  • Walking along the river or amongst the abandoned tin mines in the Tamar Valley
  • Cliff-top views and sandy beaches along the South West Coastal Path. The South West Coast Path – is just as good for short walks and gentle strolls as it is for long-distance trekking. www.southwestcoastpath.com/main/walks/ is the official guide will help you.
  • Wilderness walking and spotting the wild ponies in Dartmoor National Park– see below for more info on guided tours.
  • Mount Edgecumbe, Cotehele, Fowey and Lansallos also make for some stunning walks.
  • Kit Hill Country Park – The highest point in the Tamar Valley and with over 400 acres of heathland to explore, Kit Hill Country Park shows how humans have worked minerals on marginal upland since the stone age.

Kit Hill is a distinctive outcrop of the great granite mass that runs under the whole of Cornwall. The area is rich in archaeology from a Neolithic long barrow to 19th century mining remains and is also home to a rare array of animal and plant life. Look out for the frequent guided walks and events.
